Anyone have any more info on this? Seems odd that the American prisoners are still wearing their helmets.

The generally accepted rule of war was that POWs whilst still in the combat zone must be allowed to retain their helmets. Western Allied practice, established by the British at the Somme in 1916 but carried on into WW2, was to remove the helmets as soon as they were taken to the rear. However there is plenty of photographic evidence to show that in both wars the Germans were far less concerned about this with British and French POWs still helmeted whilst well in the rear. I guess the Italians followed the lead of their Axis allies.

This is the end of the articles as far as the year 1943. The last clipped newspaper abruptly ends on the 11th of August 1943. I am not sure if the young man who has been so diligently saving articles connected to the war has been drafted or maybe has reached the age that he could finally volunteer to do his part. When I first started sharing these small articles of news I had two other books starting with the dates of September 1, 1939. I had lent the books out for some research and they have been returned to me. If these is still an interest I can start an new Post starting with the 1st of September 1939

Do the articles conclude at the end of a scrapbook or in the middle of one?

Yes, post the other book contents.
