Philip, Bet you have this by now d http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/326/326images/bcompany_officers_lg.jpg Officers of B Company, 326th AEB in England prior to D-Day. They are (left to right): [1] 2/Lt John M. Mason (killed in Opheusden 7 Oct 1944), [2] 1/Lt Donald H Froemke ( promoted to Captain CO Company B - killed in Opheusden 5 Oct 1944 - [3] Commanding Officer Captain Jack Rogers (killed outside of Carentan, France in mid June, 1944), and [4] 1/Lt. Ray J Hiltunen (KIA Holland 18 Sept 1944).) After action report 5/10/1944 http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/326/report_5oct44_326b.html http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/326/326_memories.html Lt. Donald Froemke took command of Baker Company. According to the After Action Report, written by the Operations Officer of the battalion for October 5, 1944, "Captain Froemke was killed while moving across an open field to aid a wounded man". That wounded man was my Father. He had been shot through the back and then wounded in the leg in the small village of Opheusden, Holland. Two Dutch civilians took him into their house and cared for him for three hours before he was evacuated. Since the Germans advanced and occupied the village for a time, my Father assumed or was incorrectly told they were killed by the Nazis for helping him and never talked about what happened. Two and half years after his death on May 23, 2000, I discovered a letter in which he talks about these two brave Hollanders. After a eight month search I was able to identity these two Dutch civilians as a brother and a sister, Wim and Dir van den Bosch, who had survived the war but both died in the 1990’s, never knowing the identity of the American they had saved. http://www.wwiiadt.org/Our_Heroes/History/Airborne%20Organization.htm 101st Division Artillery : Brigadier General Anthony C. Bonsoir , I send you this e-mail from France . I saw results came from Ancestry's web site. Is it another pay site or is it a free site ? I thank you very much if you could help me . Emmanuel Hi and welcome to the forum, To answer your question, yes Ancestry is fee-based site. This is the French version, http://www.ancestry.fr/ They have been offering a free trial period recently. Problem is, you are required to give your payment details straight away, so that should you wish to continue with it, money will automatically be deducted from your account after the trial period is over. Should you wish to terminate, you need to make sure you contact them in advance of the end date. I am not sure though what level of access to information is given with the free trial. I didn't renew my subscription I'm afraid, so I can't look up anything for you, but I am sure that there are others on here who do currently have access. It would probably be best to open a separate thread of your own to get more attention, possibly entitled, "Ancestry look-up, please". Good luck with your research, Diane

Emmanuel Bonjour Emmanuel ! You are welcome; I am sorry I could help you with a search. As far as I can see, the index [to surnames] only seems to be available online from ancestry ... U.S. Rosters of World War II Dead, 1939-1945 - AncestryLibrary.com It is difficult to work out what the numbers are exactly, other than what they generally represent. Ancestry give a list of the headings for each column, but there seems to be no explanation given as to what each Code number, eg for temporary/permanent cemetery, actually means. It is possible an index to these no.s is given at the start of the documents, ie. page 1, or at the end, but unfortunately I am unable to verify. The only explanatory information they give is this: Source Information: Ancestry.com. U.S. Rosters of World War II Dead, 1939-1945 [database on-line]. Emmanuel Bonjour Paul , Excusez moi , dans ma précipitation , j'ai oublié de vous remercier . Merci beaucoup . Emmanuel
Hi Emmanuel, Yes, I could see where this would be very useful to know ... All the info I posted up for Philip came from Ancestry Here is the US military search page Military Collections - Ancestry.com For the US Vet gravesites, see here. Military Collections - Ancestry.com Also on the site are original WWII Newsreels. That site you found complements this one Find A Grave - Millions of Cemetery Records which is not just for veterans. Some family members have posted up information about their loved-ones, including photos, so it is worth searching too. Wishing you well with further research, Diane
