Jonathan Ball It's a way of life.

I was at the point in the Ramparts at Ypres last Saturday where the Wipers Times was produced. It was nothing to write home about being just a door in a stone wall but nice to know where it was put together. It's safe to say I'm looking forward very much to watching tonight.

Saw it and thought it was well written and put together.

    Agreed, well worth the watching.

My only very minor carp is that we learnt next to nothing about the unit before it started to print the Wipers Times.

Watching it now on iPlayer, an hour in.
Having a giggle but groaning at a few inaccuracies like the wrong type of gasmask carrier for 1916 & Palin's character says cavalry were in 'tanks' in scene set before they had even been used in action.

Enjoyed it; there were detail quibbles (and not just those of a detail nerd like me) and the 'revue sketches' smacked too much of Joan Littlewood.
The continuity was all over the place (such as the appearing/disappearing/reappearing MC ribbon).

But at its heart was a decent story well told. In a sense, a precursor to ARRSE ;)

Forgot to mention that I'd only seen half of it yesterday but took the precaution of recording the whole program.

Have just seen the balance of the program and now have nothing but admiration for it's sincerity.

This one is a must !

Thought it was very good. A few small factual errors but it very much kept to the spirit of what The Wiper Times was all about.
