Why is it that I keep getting invitations to take part in surveys or I've been selected as todays winner while browsing this site ?
It doesnt happen on any other site I visit.
Its quite offputting to be reading a post and then a message from 706.com? appears out of the blue. some times I have to restart to get rid of it.

How do I get to read the first post in a thread , usually clicking on a thread takes me to the last post but to understand what its about I have to go back to the first page which was where I wanted to go in the first place.
Is there a way to overcome this?

You're the first person to ever mention it.
I'll ask Adam about it .
I think it's something your end to be honest.

    Click on the thread title.
Are you clicking this box with an arrow?

That takes you to the last post in a thread.

There should be no such pop-ups on the site, other than ones notifying of PMs (which can be switched off by the user).

Our current status with Google's Safe Browsing is clean:
    http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://ww2talk.com

As I've had no reports of anyone else getting the issue, I'm afraid the initial suspicion is that something annoying has embedded itself on your machine/s - Mal/Spy/Adware can be set to trigger by specific circumstances.

Running something like Malwarebytes would be a good idea. The Free version is excellent:
    Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

(please do tell if you are getting anything similar, chaps - it's the best first indicator I can have if something peculiar is going on)

Nothing odd here (but Adblock plus is in place). I am glad though to find out that I can use the arrow to go to the last post....is it a sideways arrow (can't find one) or the blue arrow pointing downwards ?

    Hi Owen ,
As a new recruit I want to read the first post of a thread so I can understand what it is about. Ive discovered the the title takes me to the first unread post which could be ten pages away from the beginning, and the blue block takes me to the last post , ditto. Not really a big issue but I was wondering if a way exists to go to the first post of a thread.

I've got spybot but no response from it , I'll update it and see if it happens again

    Thanks

I dont know what's going on there then as clicking on the thread title always takes me to the first post of a thread.
    I'm confused.

I used to use Spybot too, but I personally think they've slipped a little behind the tide of morons who propagate this stuff.
Malwarebytes well worth a shot, as it usually seems to detect more issues than Spybot these days.

Good luck. Have checked & re-checked on several browsers, but can't find any issues at this end.

Has just happened to me when opening a thread. had to shut down session and reload ww2talk. The survey wasnt a pop up, it loaded up a page (709.com or something similar) over the ww2talk page.

Shut down and restarted ww2talk and opened the same thread this time without issue.

The same EXACT thing happened to me yesterday as above. Not a pop-up but when opening a thread. Unfortunately cannot remember which one

Folks, when reporting these things it will really, really, really help the admins to pin it down if you also state your OS and browser, with version numbers if known - this sort of stuff is usually browser-specific (generally only on IE) and sometimes only on one OS - so people on XP might see the problem, but Vista and W7 users won't.

I'm guessing none of you are using an adblocker either: these things can sometimes hijack your system via infected adverts (which you don't necessarily have had to click on - they're infected at the server and then auto-install on your computer).

I was running Windows 7 OS and IE. ran a malware scan after I got the popup and nothing was found.

There does appear to be something 'doing the rounds'. I've noticed it more on Axis History Forum, where it's affected me multiple times, and I think once here last week. On AHF it's attempting to redirect to something like juicyru? I did a search and found a few other message boards complaining of similar problems, and 709.com or similar was also mentioned.

Basically you click on a link to a forum subject, the page looks to be loading without issue then the alternate address appears and tries to hijack it. Up to now all I've had to do is press back a few times and I've returned to the previous page. It hasn't locked explorer or the computer and Norton 360 is convinced the PC is clean afterwards on a full system scan. I'm on Windows 7 and IE9.

There was a suggestion in one of the forums with similar issues that it was linked to the banner ads. Hope that may help, not hinder.

    Gary
