Now you've said that Tim it is obvious!
My school boy error which I guess is why I'm on here looking for help.
What is a Depot C Battery posting?

It actually says C Battery Depot. I would take this to mean C Battery's Base. Probably sent there for pre-embarkation leave and to prepare to go to North Africa as part of Draft RFWZH. (RFWZH doesn't stand for anything - it's a random code to keep men and their kit together, a bit like a code on a Boarding Pass.) All is likely to be clearer once we have sight of the Service Records.

After an inordinately long delay for which I apologise, I have uploaded pages 1 - 5 of my grandfather's records and will load the other pages after this.
Don't know if anyone is still watching this thread but any further help would be welcomed.

    Regards,

    Rob:

I just spotted these and downloaded the records. I will take a look at them as time permits.

Sorry should have replied earlier but there is little I can add. David will no doubt do much better.
9th LAA Prac Camp is 9th LAA Practice Camp at Cark, Cumbria.
Search this site for information on X and Y Lists.
33/11 is 33 Battery 11th LAA Regiment. This was in Italy, hence your grandfather's entitlement to the Italy Star campaign medal.

    Thanks Tim.

One more question - do you (or anyone else) know where I can buy war diaries from? I have googled it but it looks as though they are only accessible at the National Archives I think.

    Thanks.

Forum members Drew5233 and PsyWar.org do a copying service - obviously in abeyance at the moment. In the meantime ask on this site as someone may already have what you want and be prepared to share.
