Can anyone identify this badge please? Never see it before. It comes from someone who served in the British Army in the Middle East, NW Europe and Italy.

Any ideas appreciated so I can let his family know.

Cheers Jedburgh - still trying to find a captioned picture to confirm this. I should have mentioned that the badge is approx 5cm in diameter so small for a shoulder patch (sleeve trade patch?). The man who owned it served in army SF units from 42 onwards although he could of course have just collected this badge it being nothing to do with his own service.

    Thanks for the reply

SOE Middle East with a view to operating in Greece but then shipped back to the UK to join Jedburgh teams. He preferred to command British troops so transferred to 2 SAS. Ended the war serving with 3 Sqn in Italy. Not sure where, if at all this badge fits in.

Not sure how helpful it is but it shares characteristics with a badge for 8th Army Troops Engineers (formed from Edinburgh Fortress Engineers) shown on p 140 of Cole's Formation Badges of World War Two:

Can't see anything else like it.

Excellent - that makes sense as after being wounded the owner went into Air Supply for the remainder of the war. Not very exciting but it completes the picture.

Much appreciated Airborne Medic - where did you recognise it from as a matter of interest?
