    Description

The Grave of an unknown British paratrooper, set up by a German during Operation Market Garden. The text says just that: 'Unknown English Soldier', indicating that whoever the man was, must have either been a commando without a dogtag, or lost it in combat. The Photo itself was taken by the liberating 5th Army forces on April 15th, 1945.

You're right Tom, this photo appears in one of the "Oosterbeek Verwoest" books I think, but the caption says "location unknown".

My guess is that it is Oosterbeek. It looks like a Railway slope
and in the distance you see a farm or barn and a square building(Or am I
    imagining that?)

    Ron...

I haven't got a clue as to the identity of the Officer I'm afraid Drew and as for the location, I think I would tend to go with Ron and Oosterbeek. It definitely looks like a barn or house in the distance. Maybe Philip knows the precise location after all his work on the new RoH ;)........

    All the best...........

I thought it could be Mariendaal on the right hand side of this picture and
the farmhouse would then be located on the Prins Bernardweg. Its sloping terrain there just like on the original picture.
But if I am wrong I now owe Philip 2 Beers:)
