The 51 - if it is white on blue - represents a Royal Engineers unit. (I think they have cloth shoulder titles dark enough to be Royal Engineers). Can't remember exactly which one, but it is not as straightforward as 51 Field Company... will keep looking. I think the armbands are a temporary embarkation measure.
