its too small, i cant see. Have got any of them with berets? of side on so i can see their formation badges better?
My grandfathers name was Albert James Creed He was royal signals attch to the parachute regiment. On the back of the photo it says with best wishes from Jocks Kelly and Dillon. Also i have an enolope which was also in the collection which is empty ill post a pic its got unit details on Hi Owen D its Josh Howes i see the photos i sent you came out well
Hiya Josh, The surname Creed revealved your ID. Thanks again for Malta Memorial photos. Last member I recruited was bit of a looney. Hope you not going to let me down. Have we any Airbourne experts out there? just wondering if that badge is an Airbourne Signals badge. Do those letters on it look like "AB" to anyone else?
Web research revealed: HMS Terror Singapore, was a shore base and Navy Refitting Yard at, yes, Singapore. The insignia on the right upper arm of the chap on the left looks like a Navy Warrant Officer II correct place for it also. The overseas cap is a complete mystery to me. The uniforms might perhaps have been blue in colour, then possibly they are navy dungarees which would fit in with the ship fitting function being carried out at HMS Terror. My guess, they were "mates" at the dockyard. Bill
Looks like an army wireless operator's arm badge. Then again no shoulder title for royal sigs etc. Saying that it could be RAF!!! It would be interesting to see what insignia was on the two cap buttons.
Just a couple of clues from the envelope details: The "D" in front of the service number would indicate the man was enlisted into the 'Devonport division' of the Royal Navy. The "B.D." would indcate that he was in the 'bomb disposal ' team. A very dangerous occupation in Malta as in any military posting. Southern geordie
southern geordie you done it. here is badge. The badge was worn only by Airmen on the right sleeve of the service dress above chevrons. This badge was abolished by Air Ministry Order 368, published on 1 June 1948. I know the envelope is addressed to a sailor but that doesn't mean the men in the photo are. Maybe they met on a BD course and kept in touch. Josh looks like you'd better contact http://www.rafbdhistory.co.uk/
Thanks everyone another display of excellant team work That badge had me stumped. cheers Donnie. will post again if more info comes to light.
AH yes funny that you should mention malta as Owen D Knows that my uncle was killed in Malta as a bomber pilot and i also had another uncle in the R.A.F called John Creed whos service i know nothing about so perhaps these two were mates with them. although if they were R.A.F wouldnt they have the eagle on their right hand shoulder.
