I saw a chat about this recently in some Facebook group and I was sceptical, to say the least. How wrong I was. It still seems very ‘odd’ to me to decide to strap bazookas underwing, especially when rockets already existed (even if the latter turned out not to be too effective). I would love to see figures on the effectiveness of the bazookas - particularly their accuracy.

The "bazookas" mounted underwing on P-47's, P-38's etc were actually triple launchers for M8 4.5inch rockets, a totally different weapon.

    M8 (rocket) - Wikipedia

The M8 was an Army developed weapon which turned out to be inferior to the 5inch HVAR with zero launch developed by the Navy.

The bazooka was a much smaller calibre weapon - 2.36inch (60mm).
