CONDOCK V, carrying LCT 7074, spent yesterday moored off the Isle of Wight. Some time today she moved into Portsmouth Naval Base where she is now moored. On the attached satellite view CONDOCK V is the green diamond in the centre of the shot. If memory serves the large white building South of CONDOCK V is the main BAE maintenance faciity where it is understood LCT 7074 will undergo the first part of the restoration.
U-534 is now on display as a tourist attraction at Woodside Ferry, Birkenhead, opposite Liverpool's Pier Head. It must be remembered that U-534 shot down a Liberator on its last voyage despite being ordered to surrender and fly a black flag, by Admiral Donitz, on that fateful day in May 1945. It was said after U-534 was raised and brought to Merseyside that this U-Boat had never been involved in combat but was used for meteorological duties. Not true. It also shot down a Wellington bomber earlier in the war. robin bird

Sad about HMS Plymouth as I have happy memories of taking several school trips to Historic Warships and having excellent guided tours of the frigate and submarine moored alongside. I remember one group of boys resoundingly voting Historic Warships much better than the recently opened IWM North, which they had also visited.
