    Dear Members,

Firstly James Pictures are superb ? Thanks for your time & trouble !

This type of u boat was absolutly a revolution in submarine warfare
    .
Many Many a Mystery surround it ? and I for one feel as though that we will never know of its purposes and later assignments.

The difference between the 505 and 534 of course is that 505 was never sunk and raised, so her eqpt is in optimum condition. The 534 was raised after 40 odd years beneath the sea, so is a missed 'mussed up.'

Good to see her resqued. Although I am glad I visited her in 2002 when you could still walk inside.

    Regards,

    Marco

I have a good DVD about the capture of U-505 and it makes interesting viewing.

Due to operation Torch in North Africa the submarine was not towed to the nearest Allied port in West Africa to preserve secrecy and it was towed all the way back to the safety of the US.

The captains of the U-Boat and Hunter group became friends after the war and are shown visiting the Museum together.

    Regards
    Tom

I nearly forgot, the thread title is misleading as the U534 is actually in Birkenhead. dont let anyone who lives there be told they are in Liverpool, you will get lynched!!! ;)

Also a good view of the boat being set in her new location on google earth street view.
search for woodside Birkenhead ferry terminal and zoom on the mini roundabout near the car park
