I am researching Uncle Harry Pierpoint's war for the grand children. We know he had a Burma Star and still had his 'Burma' hat when he died in his 90s. He was a soldier aboard the Incomati sunk by U-508 off South Africa during July 1943 which I believe was departing port. Everyone got off except for one fatality. Harry recalled U-508 then surface and manned its guns. 'We were expecting them to machine gun us but instead they finished off the Incomati.' he recalled. Can anyone tell me what regiments were aboard|? ps A photograph of U508 would be welcome

Temujin thanks for the info, once I can determined what regiments might have been aboard I might be able to work out which one Harry might have served with. Sadly there is no one in the family still alive who will know but would like to tell the grand children as much as possible.. Harry lived in Wallasey, Cheshire, now Merseyside.
