In the later months of 1941, the Luftwaffe set about developing an airfield in the south of Crete, close to the town of Tymbaki (Tympaki).

An Allied Air Intelligence report from 1943 suggests that the airfield was developed rapidly in the autumn of 1941 by utilising British, New Zealanders and Greek POW labour gangs, who worked day and night.

The majority of allied POWs captured on Crete around 1 June 1941 seemed to have been shipped to mainland Europe by August or September,1941.

Looking for any further information on the POW's , the camp they were in and any names of those that were held there and engaged in the construction of the airfield.

    Thank you.
    Merry Christmas
