Part of my collection, these are both Smith & Wesson Military & Police (later Model 10) revolvers, known at the factory as .38 Hand Ejector, Model of 1905, 4th Change. Both are martially marked, Parkerized, unpolished, wartime production.

At top is a U.S., caliber .38 Special, shipped to the Navy Yard at Oakland July 15th, 1943.

Below is a .38-200 (caliber .38 S&W) New Zealand issue shipped to Springfield Armory October 26th, 1942.

Several hundred thousand of these were supplied to Great Britain and the Commonwealth Nations, mainly under the Lend-Lease Act.

Both arms are substitute (or alternate) standard sidearms, produced to alleviate the typical handgun shortages of the time.

The holster is British, marked 1944. The belt is a U.S., dated 1918.
