I've provisionally turned on the Twitter bookmarking for the forum. (I stress 'provisionally', cautious about anything like this.) If you click on 'Tweet this thread' below, it ought to take you to your Twatter account with a pre-prepared URL. It seems to work as well.
Sorry, mate - missed your reply. Yeah, Tweet away I'd say. (Or use any of the other linky buttons at the bottom of each page.)
If you're on Twatter, put a link to your profile here. 2Talk's profile is almost 8K followers now, and my prime interest there (other than following the more hilarious trolls ) is hopefully sharing anyone's wholesome WW2 stuff to a wider audience. Share, share, share. Twatter is chock full of absolute Sh**e, but it's also a fine link-feed to more specific stuff if carefully set up. Who are you?
Nearly five years on I've decided to dip my toe in the water. You can see my posts @Dunkirk_1940 (obviously).....God help me Ps I'm in France for a few days research next month so I'm expecting to share some good stuff on it then.
Who are you on there, chaps? I can never tell if someone's a member or not. Share your usernames & I might not mute you for constant football/politics/pictures of dinner.
@billrobertson55 I should really have a separate account for WW2 related stuff but I have too many social media accounts as it is! I only started Twitter as a half hearted attempt to flog my (sadly stagnant) fiction writing.
I am a former Twit. I found that I had to wade through a sea of toxic waste in order to find the odd gold nugget. After a year I cancelled my account, with no regrets.
One or two of my mates are on F... book & Twitter, or Twatter. Not my bag at all. I found it quite depressing that my sister got slated from some old school friends over a period of time. The mods on this board would not permit it. People on here would also report such shit. I would be arrested if i was on either of them.
As is mentioned above, each to their own.. These things are as good and as bad as they may suit your own personal "needs". which is stating the b....g obvious. From my own personal experience, and I have a couple of accounts going, largely to share information, historical guidance and links/stories in respect of my father's/his battalion's/his brigade's war time journey from Algiers to Austria, I find that Twitter works perfectly well for me. Lots of good information can flow to/from the accounts - and lots of new learning. And it's timely and up to date...not always the case via websites. Thinking carefully about what you're posting/retweeting - so it's accurate and relevant - is always a good on-line mantra. After about 3,500 personal tweets, yes I can go on a bit, and innumerable retweets to several hundred followers on my two accounts, I've only had one "abusive" response - when I shared the story of the great uncle of a breakfast time "journalist" who had served in my father's regiment in Italy. The subsequent retweet by the man in question picked up responses from some strange parts of the world.. and one American felt he had to share his own perceived personal grievances with the world..it was easily ignored...I had first head the word used when I was about 11.. Each to his/her own...and if anyone is still reading my Twitter IDs are on my signature bar below. best wishes
I really want to be on Gogglebox, but it would have to be aired much later in the evening, and just before I was arrested.
