There is an estate auction tomorrow and the helmet below is for sale - though the auction house claim it to be a german ww2 helmet, I don't recognize it as being such but I am not an expert! The angle at the ear is different and I don't recognize the two sets of small holes on the side. Can anybody tell me anything about this helmet? Origin, date etc?
I'm not an expert, but it's in the style of a WWII German fire service civil helmet. Certainly not a Wehrmacht helmet. I think these were often re-issue post-war with new liners inside.
It is a square dip M34, mostly used by Firebrigade, though also sometimes used by Police. The air vents are what are known as salt & pepper shaker type for obvious reasons. Not worth a lot of money even if in good condition which this is not.
