Trying to trace Stan Ryder (24th Lancers and 1st RTR) or living relatives.

Stan Ryder (Army Number 14403742) was my late fathers best friend when they served together in the 24th Lancers in the U.K. and the early days of the Normandy Campaign. Stan was transferred to the 1 RTks aka 1RTR aka 1st Battalion Royal Tank Regiment when the 24th Lancers were disbanded in July 1944 while my father was transferred to 3RTR. Stan was very badly burned whilst with 1RTR. Stan and my father kept in touch after the War and I remember visiting the Ryder family in the 1950-60s. After a time, partly due to my late fathers serious illness, they lost touch.

My mother - still with us - would now like to know what happened to Stan and his family.

We have put together some key facts as follows (basically from mums memory). It's all a long time ago so please allow for possible conflation. I've excluded a small amount of detail (hopefully nothing critical) as this is a Public Forum and I'm conscious of privacy etc. Please PM/Conversation me if in doubt.

    Key facts are:
    Stan Ryder: Army Number 14403742
Regiments: 24th Lancers and 1 RTks
Born approx 1921-25 possibly in Rainworth nr Mansfield Nottinghamshire
    Wife's name: Pat
Daughters name: Janet born July 1958
    No other children.
Stan's father lived near Kettering at some time where he worked at Wicksteed Park.

Addresses (more details to hand if required): Note, these are believed to be in the correct time/date order but dates of moves not known:
Stan and his father: Southwell Road, Rainford, Notts (likely pre-War address?)
    Stan and family:
    Chain Lane, Staining, Blackpool
    Waltham Avenue, Stoughton(?), Guildford
Elmhurst Road, Dovercourt, Harwich (I believe accurate for ca 1978)
Burton Latimer near Kettering (so Stan could be near his presumably by then elderly father).

My mother has written to various addresses over the years but, apart from a reply from a lady in Burton Latimer who had heard the name Ryder but had no more information, we've drawn a blank.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

No. Could still be valid as no-one that we know knows where Stan went after Burton Latimer.

    This looks a 'possible'. Thanks.

In 1939 the family was living at Southwell, Nottinghamshire. The dob is the same as the Stanley Ryder T.D. found at Pershore, Worcestershire.

I can't thank you chaps enough: Stans details are now clear and will provide Mum with a degree of closure. Just now need to trace his last wife Nellie (I note the Pershore property has recently been sold!) and, of course, his daughter Janet.

Is it possible to expand this image to show other members of the household? Is this from the so-called 1939 Register?

    Steve,
It only includes John, Lillian and Stan, no other siblings.

    To anyone reading this post:

Thanks to the amazing help of the chaps posting to this thread, and numerous Conversation messages, I now know what happened to Stan Ryder. Sadly he died about 12 years ago. My mission is now to contact his daughter - who may also have been identified by the above chaps - and, as they say, take it from there. This has provided closure for my Mum who has been looking for Stan on and off for over 35 years. Lots of detail has been identified via the help I've received but lots of it is personal to the Ryder family so I'm sure you will forgive me if I leave it at that.

A final comment in this post: this is a truly amazing Forum and collection of people and long may it continue.
