Trying To Solve May - Sept 1945 Date Mystery

    Hi

I have a mystery I'm trying to solve, but don't know if it will be possible.

Grandad served in 53rd (worcs Yeo) Air Landing Light Regiment. The period of time I'm looking at is after Operation 'Varsity'.

    In Grandad's records it has

    Embark UK 23 - 12 - 44 (Ardennes)
    Embark NWE for UK 21 - 2 - 45 (return from Ardennes)
then it has SOS 21 AG
    Embark NWE for UK 1 - 6 - 45 (return from ??)

I don't understand why there isn't a date for leaving the UK after Feb '45 and before June '45

In another document, Army Form B.200b, in the bottom right corner, it has these dates:

    Home from 24 - 10 - 34 to 9 - 6 - 44 9 years 229 days
    NW Europe from 10 - 6 - 44 to 2 - 9 - 44 85 days
    Home from 3 - 9 - 44 to 22 - 12 - 44 111 days
    NW Europe from 23 - 12 - 44 to
    (1 - 6 - 45- this date is struck through) 164 days (struck through)
(to home from 2 - 6 - 45 this date and location is struck through)
    to 13 - 9 - 45 265 days
    home from 14 - 9 - 45 to 7 - 2 - 46 147 days

Can anyone throw any light in the dates that have been struck through?

To my uneducated mind, it looks like he might have been scheduled to back to uk on 1 June 45, but for some reason he didn't and instead came back home on 13 September 45, just before he was put on the Reserves in Feb '46

I have the war diaries for the regiment and the rest of the regiment, including the vehicles had all returned to Bulford by 23 May 45.

So even with the (possibly cancelled) return date of 1 June, the rest of his regiment had already been back in the UK for around a week, but what would he have been doing away from home until September '45?

Could he have volunteered for additional duties after the end of the war, I think some parts of the army remained, but if so, should it have been mentioned on his records?

I don't know if I'll be able to solve the mystery, but I'd like to try.
