I remember a movie set in north Africa with a British (I think) soldier lost in the desert driving a half-track up and down endless sand dunes. Ring a bell with anyone? I'd like to watch it again.
Not something as simple as "Ice Cold in Alex". Anything in here ring a bell? https://www.bfi.org.uk/lists/10-great-films-set-desert Regards, Dave
Thanks for that list. Some good ones there I'll have to watch. I asked a WWII movie buff friend of mine about the half-track scene and he identified the movie as Sahara. Can't believe I forgot about that part. Great movie. Loved the part were Bogart was going to abandon the Italian POW in the desert. "We don't have room for a load of spaghetti!" Surprised that list left off The Wind and the Lion. I think that one is one of the best movies ever. Marines with .30-40 Krags. Sailors have Colt M1895 machine guns.
Ah, forgot to share a chap on Twatter suggested Sahara: https://twitter.com/AcrosstheKill/status/1511840203106922504?s=20&t=IsmnMNGTDOy1TP0znm3EZw Glad you scratched that itch anyway.
Nice to see The Good, The Bad & The Ugly made it in the list. It's loosely based on Sibley's Glorietta Campaign and protrays the retreat from Santa Fe. The 4th TX Cavalry (was on the ambulance) was never there. Sibley was a drunkard who was the worse person to be given an independent command. His greatest accomplishment was he was mentioned in the movie by the innkeeper. "Sibley in the white hat, he looks dead." BTW, the NM desert doesn't look anything like the movie but who cares?
