    Hi all
I am looking for any information regarding the units my father served in during ww2.
the info we have is as follows
15.7.1939 deemed to have enlisted into RASC
15.7.1939 posted to 2 Military training corps
    7.9.1939 posted 27 Coy RASC
Posted to 1st Coy RASC (date not recorded)
    13.7.1940 posted 288 Coy (2nd London Div)
    15.10.1941 posted 118 Coy (47 London Div)
23.12.1941 transferred to RPC, posted to No12 Centre?
1.10.1942 Discharged - failure to meet medical requirements.

It appears he was at Dunkirk from my reckonings as listed service was with BEF 26.9.1939 - 5.6.1940?

any help appreciated tracing these units

    Peter

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum Peter.

Are you in possession of your fathers copy service records from MOD Glasgow or is the information you've posted above taken from the letter they used to send out previously (10 years or more ago)?

If you have his service record the Medal entitlement is usually shown on it.

    hi
    thanks for speedy reply.
the information is in a letter dated 1990. Giving all the information I have supplied.
It does include medals issued, which we in fact have.
I believe he may have been discharged following Dunkirk? I cannot find any medical history either.
Just curious as to which units he may have been attached to as I understand all rasc units were attached to infantry regiments?

    Hi,

I thought you were referring to an old style information sheet.

You may not be aware that with FOI are now releasing full copies (original documents) of soldiers service records - see below link. I would reapply and if you paid under the previous system I would enclose a copy of the information received and ask if MOD will waive the fee as it does seem unfair to pay twice for basically the same information - having said that you do get more detailed information under the current system. Takes 4 to 6 weeks to get the papers although you get a standard letter from MOD saying it can take up to a year!

    PS

You won't get any medical information as it is classed as personal information - Canadian & Australian service files do contain all medical info but different countries so different rules apply.

    Good Luck

    Hi Peter,

I am looking up my grandfather's war records as well, they've not come through yet however, he was in 288 Coy and from what I can work out was with them for considerable amount of time. I'm very much looking to work out more about this Company's story and have managed to gather about 40 names of members, much of this info has come from a letter about a reunion club called the Black Circle Club. They met annually until 1997. I wonder if your father was ever invited? Have you found out any more about the 288 Coy since researching?

    Tom
