    Hi Bonus

    Welcome

Would suggest starting a new thread for him so that all the info will be dedicated - and add scans of his service records for members to read and hopefully answer your questions

Moved your post to it's own thread so as not to get lost in the one it was in.

That number is for block allocated to the RTR.
    Royal Tank Regiment 7868001 - 7891868
Do the records mention him enlisting into the RTR ?

East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry - Wikipedia
    1st East Riding Yeomanry[edit]
In March 1940, after training at Tidworth, the 1st Regiment joined the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in France as part of the 1st Armoured Reconnaissance Brigade, initially the Corps Cavalry to III Corps. However, in May, the Regiment passed under the command of 48th (South Midland) Division, 44th (Home Counties) Division, Macforce, and finally back to 48th (South Midland) Division. The Regiment was first involved in fighting near Ath, south of Brussels, and then over the next fortnight fought seven rearguard actions before being finally surrounded at Cassel on the night of 29/30 May in the company of 145th Infantry Brigade. As rearguard to the brigade’s breakout, the F echelon was fatally exposed.
The remnants of 1ERY (7 officers and 230 men) returned to Tidworth, where the Regiment was brought up to strength by drafts from the 2nd Regiment, before moving on to Bovington to rejoin 1st Armoured Reconnaissance Brigade.

Thanks tricky, I have come across that passage in a few places, reading it again, it looks like he may well have been wounded at Cassel? But it seems if he was wounded there on the 30th he was back home on the 31st, that seems a bit quick to me at that time. Im loving this site already, hopefully when I post his docs I may be able to get some more info on his role, I am under the assumption he may have been a universal carrier driver from info and the very little I know. Like a lot of vets he never talked about it.

Do you know what date he was injured? I suspect it was at Cassel where he was injured as the regiment suffered significant casualties defending the town with the Glosters and OBLI.

Yes I have the date, it is on his records as the 30th even though the casualty report posted on here by Harkness says the 31st. He nearly lost his left arm, docs say GSW but family recons it was shraknel that went straight through his upper arm, I can still remember now how thin his was where it went through.
I look forward to members comments and or info when I get his records posted next week.

    Cheers bruce.

East Riding Yeomanry were equipped with Vickers Light Tanks VIB, they destroyed all their B Echelon vehicles the day before Cassel action I think, but I can't find the article and the BEF order of battle I got that from - someone on here will know.....Good detailed history here:

According to a nominal roll in the East Riding archives Trooper Buck was with C Squadron.
