    Hi All

A friend has sent me this, its his wife's fathers service record. Whilst some of it jumps out, they are keen to know about his wartime service and where he was injured and the battalions he was in. There was a family rumor that he parachuted into France before DDay, but that does not seem to be the case. Could you help with a translation of his service please and which battalion he was it etc.
The family would be appreciative of any extra details that could be provided.
    Thanks

So a very quick look shows he signed up as a boy soldier in 1933 and subsequently served with 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry in India. This was part of 114th Indian Infantry Brigade, 7th Indian Division, but he returned to the UK in January 1943, well before the division went to Burma. He seemed to have been with 4th and then 5th Battalion, Oxa and Bucks Light Infantry, both battalions being training units.

He subsequently arrived in Normandy on 27th June 1944 as a replacement and was assigned to 4th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry. This battalion was part of 129th Infantry Brigade, 43rd (Wessex) Division. He was wounded on 17th August 1944 by shell splinters to his right leg, resulting in amputation.

    5thIndian,

Just done three such transcripts this week, so I will have a look maybe at the weekend.

Leslie George Dupree, b. 13/12/1916, 5670699, joined Army 23/5/1933, posted to SLI 13/12/1934 and discharged 30/5/1945 after leg amputation - whilst serving in North West Europe.

His name and number have not appeared here before.
