Father began in Royal Artillery and I have his service number.
Towards the end of the war he was transferred to RASC.
Would he still have kept the original service number, please?
    Cheers,
    Gordon

    Thanks Lesley.

Father was a driver with 34th LAA (HQ Swansea) - they were sent to Egypt and Tobruk in 1943, then on to Bari, in Southern Italy, arriving in late December (just missing the raid on Bari in early December). They returned to Swansea around Christmas 1944. He was then posted to RASC Wales, who were busy getting food to the Dutch, who were starving, after being liberated.

Yes, similar, father enlisted in TA as RE searchlight operator in June 37, then transferred to RA HAA regiment in July 38 (still in the TA) and finally transferred to the RASC from just before outbreak of war through to demob in 46. His army number on the 1937 attestation papers is identical to that on his Demob.
