I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong thread, but wasn't sure where to post this. I'm trying to track down an American/Canadian Serviceman by the name of Charles Arthur Moon. I have very little information to go on. No Battalion, Service Number, Rank or Serial Number or even exactly where in America he came from and no birth date. I do however, have a photograph of him which I'll attach. The Information I do have is this: Name: Charles Arthur Moon Nationality: US or Canadian of Native American origin (tribe unknown) Stationed: Near or in Swanage, Dorset, England (may have had connections to Worth Matravers) Battles: D-D Landings Battalion: Possibly 1st US Infantry, 26th Infantry Regiment (1st and 2nd Battalions, Cannon Company and the Anti-tank Company all at Swanage) - this is based on my research so far Friends: Earl and Martin (sorry no surnames I'm afraid) Survival: Pretty sure he survived and returned to American, but not entirely sure I know there was a fire that destroyed the service records for a number of US WW2 servicemen and that combined with the very little information we have on him that we may never find him. This is a 70 year old mystery that I would love to solve for my father. He has gone his entire life not knowing anything other than these few details about his father. He was very reluctant to search for him until after my grandmother passed away 10 years ago and unfortunately both my mother and I have hit dead end after dead end trying to find any information about him. Most of the family members that could have helped to give us a little more information about him have sadly now passed away. My father will be turning 70 in January and I would dearly love to give him the best birthday present I can by telling him something more about his father and about his heritage. We are aware Charles Arthur Moon may have already had a family before being stationed in Dorset that may not be aware of my father's existence and we really do not want to cause them any hurt. However, it would really mean a lot to my father and to my sister and I to finally know more about him. Any pointers on helping me track him down would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Rena Do you have any idea how old this soldier was?? in his 20's 30's 40's etc ?? or any further details? TD edited to add: what year is his death registered so we can assume that as your father is reaching 70 (b 1944) then he would have been 20 - 25 years old when your father was born so he was probably born 1920 - 1925
Hello Rena and welcome to the forum I suggest you register also with our sister site at www.ww2f.com. Mainly an American focus there and I am sure there are members who can help too Good luck with your research. Lesley
