Hi quite a bit ago i asked for help to ref my father Gilbert Tyson who some of you gave me a name of 1 person that you found a gunner G Tyson ser no 4390649 was with 1st para air landing light regt which i was gratefully happy to receive. but was also told to get his birth certificate , since then having a few departures with the big "C" from family i left it . but recently i have got his birth certificate then today with a free entry to ancestry .com for Easter i was checking the above person and his name was Geoffrey not Gilbert so was not my father. But while checking on the site while it was free full excess, i found a Gilbert Tyson ser no 140509752 tracer card it states enlisted 7-1-1943 and unit RA Depot 18-8-1943 but am lost as to what the info of i assume is where he was sent to. any help please
step no 1 is to obtain his service record Get a copy of military service records Once you have the service record. Members of this site can interpret what it might contain.
Just to add to the above by Sheldrake, you DO NOT need any military information to send off for service records, so if you are unsure of any service deatils leave them out. You just need date of birth and a death certificate. As per your other post you will not find WW2 records online. Best to keep everything on one post as things can get messy, for others this is the other post re your father. regt help please
If I am reading the tracer card correctly it should be an interesting read. With 165th Field Rgt in Italy (8th Indian Div), some time with the Jewish Bde (200th Fld Regt), and then off to South East Asia in late 1945 after the war ended in Europe. Would like to hear the story when they arrive. Probably 2021
BaldyBod hope this is my father looking at the tracer card saved the photo 2 things what is REYKF and X list (4)CMF mean if you have any idea t.y.i.a.
Hi, I haven't seen the tracer card but the random 5 letters are likely his draft code - stencilled on his kitbag - when he went overseas. Many men would have the same draft code. There are many threads in the forum about X lists - X4 is explained in this topic XlistWW2 | WW2Talk CMF is Central Mediterranean Force - one of several acronyms for men serving in Italy. Steve
Thank you for that info would it be ok to put the tracer card on here for you to look at as i saved it from the ancestry .com site
