Hi everyone, First time posting as I'm just starting out on finding out more about my grandads time in the Royal Engineers. I've found his tracer card, but it doesn't seem to hold as much information as others I've seen. There is one other record that holds more but this ID number matches what we know. He was discharged in 1948 on his own request upon payment, but it's the other information I'm struggling with. 10 HQ Regt I thought would mean 10 headquarter regiment but I can't find any such regiment. We've only just sent off for his service record, but would be nice to get a head start. Is there anyone able to shed any light on this? Thank you in advance
HI His service number is in the RE range - Royal Engineers 1842001 - 2303000 How about this - British Army units from 1945 on - 10 Regiment (british-army-units1945on.co.uk) regards Robert
UK, Military Campaign Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1949 Name: H A L Hale Rank: Spr Regiment or Unit Name: Royal Engineers 56 Fld Sqn Regimental Number: 1953275 Medal: General Service Medal (Palestine) 1945/8 Campaign or Service: Palestine July 47 - Sept 47 British Army units from 1945 on - 56 Squadron (british-army-units1945on.co.uk) You really need his official service records for his full history and timeline.
Thank you - hopefully we'll get them in due course, it was the 10 hq regiment had me scratching my head. We knew he was in Palestine and got the Palestine clasp, and we know of some of his movements from his little red army service book.
