Hi, many moons ago when I was at school I was given a cloth SAS cap badge and some medals by an old lady, sadly she is no longer about. I have written on a peice of paper " belonged to Trooper Robert Dunn SAS, ex Royal Scots Fusiliers, 21 parachute jumps". I would like to try and find out more about this man, any ideas how i could find out his unit etc.. thanks in advance, Rick
Rick, it may be a start by listing the medals or posting a photo as this would indicate which theaters he served in P
Hi, no picture but from memory - 1939/45 star, Africa star, Italy star, France and germany star and a war medal - a well travelled soldier, Rick
Welcome to the forum, I take it you don't have the medals and the like now then? Unfortunately I think you may struggle to find anything out if your not the NOK. Cheers
Hi, the medals and badge are back in the UK, i am working in Qatar so I don't have access to them at the moment. Cheers, Rick
Ahhh, No worries... a Next of Kin is the best option so you can send of for his service records that will identify his unit/s which will then lead you to his unit/s diaries and possibly info on the net. Cheers
You'll need to identify him on a government census then search for a living relative on the cesus's. After that if they are the next of kin and give you permission, the records can be applied for. Regards
This is quite interesting. I checked Special Forces Role of Honor and could not find the name. Regards, Mick Blank
Guys, I may have a breakthrough - 3130237 Trooper Dunn 1st SAS, completed parachute course number 105 on 01/03/44. On an out of date website for the Tees museum, a 3130237 Pte R H Dunn Para is listed as holder of the Territorial Effieciency Medal. I could be on to a winner here! Can anybody give me any info on 1st SAS, where they operated etc? Cheers, Rick
if you pick up a copy of antony kemps book sas at war it will give you a good starting point to work from it gives a good overveiw on the sas, and you can pick it up very cheaply these days.
HI, just refreshing this enquiry as I have not been able to find anything else about him yet... Cheers, Rick
