Well its come to it, Mrs ABE and I are thinking of downsizing homes,, now daughter number 1 is well and truly moved out! Daughter number 2 says she will be soon! so leaves me and Mrs ABE in 3 bed semi, too big for the both of us and about time we cut some costs. Anyway we have been looking at various places and are astonsied at difference in price, so a question to any members of the forum who live in the UK? Why are 2-3 bed houses in Ipswich so cheap? Found one on T'internet 3 bed, end terraced with big garden etc, for under £90K... whats that all about? And whats it like? and the surrounding area? Never been there so we will be doing a Recce in the near future, so any pointers of where to look, or more importantly avoid looking! Also has to be in reasonable walking distance of the railway station as I will have to still get to work in East London! Regards to all Andy
Spent some time in Ipswich renovating a Barclay's bank near the Daily Express building when we would bump into Giles the cartoonist on the odd occasion -always thought it a nice town . Word of warning though we have also been downsizing in the past 20 years since the children flew the coop - from 5000 sq ft - 3000 - 2200 - now we are down to around 1500 sq ft - and we seem to have as much furniture as we had when we started ....so junk it ! Twenty five years of saved christmas cards is not on ! Cheers
Where's the 90k house I'll go and check it out.Depends on the area of the Town!!! There's a nice Bronze statue for Giles across the road from the Bank, which has just been done up again !!
Don't forget you need space for the books. I'm always hearing about you lads clearing them out to make space or leaving them with an ex.
Well I think it's cheaper, because Ipswich Town FC are doing so well anymore ... I think of this and good old Bobby Robson when I hear Ipswich mentioned. http://www.tmwmtt.com/book_review/champions-in-europe-1980-81.jpg Let's not bring up Escape to Victory, shall we? D

Im far too young, anyway this will only be for a couple of years before retirement to somewhere in the sun Ramacal Books---- aha, they ARE coming with me, thats why we need a third bedroom (a study!) Diane- football, football, nooooooooooooo! Im a rugby man, as long as Ive got sky and can watch Rugby Ill be a happy chappy, although its a bit further from the tunnel to go over to the continent! Anyway off to surf t'internet for more houses/bungalows etc Andy
Andy, If you vist the Police Service website who covers Ipswich (I assume Suffolk) they will have a search engine somewhere on the site that lists different types of crime by post code Ie: Anti-Social Behav Car Crime Burglaries Violent Crime etc. Its a new Home Office thing and all Services should have them now. What you find may be relative to the house price. Regards Andy
Best of Luck on this ABE. Spending, much less moving, increases my stress level incrimentally by the amount. Buying a newer car this past week nearly sent me over the top without the thoughts of one of the offspring coming home 'just for the summer." Right! As I said, best of luck. cheers, phil
Andy - When I was lad - this is way before anyone's time -the manager of Ipswich Town F.C. was a man called Scott Duncan - who went to school in Lochee - near Dundee - with my father and they were still friends. My Father also ran a junior football team and were needing a new strip. A quick call to Scott solved that problem and at the season's end - Scott appeared with Ipswich's old strip and I stood on our kitchen table modelling this strip - must have been around 1934 or so.....happy days ! Things were as bad then as they appear to be heading now ! Cheers
Thanks all for your thoughts, Drew I had considered that, I think I have a former colleague who is up there somwhere, might give him a rnig! I'm already stressed as it is! No grandchildren on the horizon as yet, neither of my girls are married yet! As for buying a new car, I hope you got a damn good deal in these uncertain economic times, I might even be mortgage free if they are as cheap as they seem! Just been looking again and seems to be plenty to choose from, within our proposed budget! Even found one with a cellar! now that would be a study and a half! Andy
Thanks all for your thoughts, Even found one with a cellar! now that would be a study and a half! Andy As long as it is free from damp, your books etc will be just fine. No lass I know of likes a cellar, so you have your own personal Fuhrer bunker from which to conduct future operations from.
I have to say that I am typing this from my bunker! There is exactly the same floor area underground as the ground floor. Regards Tom
I need a Bunker ! Andy, the sites and statistics are accessable to the general public so no back door nudge nudge wink wink hows ya father required Cheers Andy
