    Sorry! I did not search this forum carefully enough before posting and now I cannot simply delete the question below!
    In answer to my own question, I have now found resource tools on British / Canadian map symbols and German map symbols:

    Original question:
    Please can someone advise me on the availability of any comprehensive official guides to the tactical symbols used to mark enemy positions on the 'defence overprint' copies of military maps..?
    I have found a modern US Army guide available online, but I am not sure how much use this would be for World War Two vintage British maps:

    At the moment, I am looking specifically at the British GSGS series 4414 Sheet 4204 Germany 25K Rees Defence Overprint [Operation Plunder], 12 February 1945:
