[Reuters] Tue, 26 Oct 2010 17:21:00 +1000 Tonga has sent off its first troops to be deployed in Afghanistan, where they will serve alongside the British military. A military spokesman in Tonga says 55 soldiers have departed for pre-deployment training in Britain before beginning their six-month assignment in Helmand province. They are the first of the 275 soldiers that Tonga has committed over a two-year period following a request from Britain. Tongan soldiers served in Iraq from 2004 to 2006, and again from 2007 to December 2008.

Completely unrelated with Tongan troops but this month Bosnia and Herzegovina also has sent troops to Afghanistan First Bosnian troops set off for Afghanistan Oct 15, 2010, 14:51 GMT Sarajevo - A contingent of 45 Bosnian infantry troops departed on Friday to join the peacekeeping effort in Afghanistan. The unit comprises professional soldiers who volunteered for the mission. They have been allocated to the Danish contingent of the peacekeeping effort and will be tasked with security at NATO bases in Helmand province. It is the first time Bosnia has sent its soldiers on a combat mission. Bosnians took part in the peacekeeping mission in Iraq, but only with a team of demining experts.
