    In my grandfathers diary -

I was chosen with 20 people to protect tobruk, when german stuka's bombed the route me and sgt charlie dixon was on. (He was from Rugby, Northants) we took cover near our vehicle till it got bombed. So we walked to tobruk we watched as the Germans bombed the minefield outside the city.

anybody aware of this ? not sure if this is before knightsbridge or after

anyone know anyone in the 20 with my grandfather Jack Tebbutt?

We have my father in law's diaries 1940 to 1945. He was in Tobruk in 1941 with R Troop 4th Durham Survey Regiment

Allied forces surrendered at Tobruk in June 1942 and soon after Rommel was at the Alamein line, so it must have been before then.

true, seemingly my pap must have been one of the regiments to protect tobruk before it fell and then got back to cairo for some downtime as he mentioned that regiment withdrawn from active duty in cairo before battle of el alamein he spent time lifting mines.
