Please can anyone tell me what 1 RTR were doing in June -August 1941 in Tobruk?
My father's diary entries for this time are missing, but I know he was in Tobruk on June 8th, which places him with the Squadron of 3rd KOH which were allocated to D Squadron, 1 RTR.

I believe that some time during this periood he may have been injured and evacuated to Alexandria hospital, but until I get his Records, I can't confirm that.
    Thanks.

Hi Drew, his name was Frank Wallbank. He was an 'OR' This is so interesting as there is a leg wound to one OR on August 3rd and other gunshot wounds on the 11th. As children our mother told us he was shot in the knee, but he would never tell us which one. Perhaps that was because he was shot on both thighs??? When I get his records , is it likely to tell us this?
Thanks very much for this Drew. If I can solve this puzzle it will be very exciting.

I was just checking the nominal roll in the diary. He's not listed but thought it worth a look.

Alex hospital.jpg View attachment 133956 Thanks, there are 2 possibilities here, both wounded and evacuated during the right time. The first , on August 3 had gunshot to both thighs, which fits my mother's 'story', but the second, on the 11 August also has possibilities as the wounded were '3 OR's and OME in LAD.' Thanks to the abbreviations database I can tell that is Ordnance Mechanical Engineer in the Light Aid Detachment. In simple terms, is that likely to mean a fitter/mechanic in the workshops? His records would perhaps show, depending on how long it took to be evacuated from Tobruk to Alexandria, if that was the case. The photos say 64th General Hospital, Alex, and there are also several photos of this time of 'Sister Jones.'
