Thank you so much! Without you, I would not be in bed right now. I would be in a uniform, having to do the Hitler salute every morning, Join the Hitlerjugend, be someone I'm not. All my black and Asian friends wouldn't be here with me. Thank you for saving my country from the Nazis!

With Love, Lukas, 18 years old, from Hannover, Germany

    I wholeheartedly agree.

I'd particularly like to thank those Americans who fought to the end at Dunkirk, who bested the Luftwaffe in 1940 and who outfoxed Rommel at the gates of Egypt.

I only wish some of my own kinsmen had managed to contribute to the Normandy landings and the liberation of Europe; we're lucky the Americans had the strength to go it alone.

I would like to see this model of a bombed out Hannover.

I was in Hannover way back in 1992.
I think there was an info board outside the Hauptbahnhof with a photo similar to this one on it.
I remember it showed the bomb damage & a jeep.
I assume it was this photo.

EDIT: Something else relating to those times I remember seeing & pointing out to my host , was the de-nazified eagle on a pillar at the Maschsee.

I have also heard rumours that the British were occasionally involved in the war.
Somewhere in this forum I once read something about it

Anyone heard of a Soviet involvement in the conflict? And I do not say "Russian" for a reason…

I have indeed heard of this (as I have heard of an astonishing number of other nations)
I have some doubts, however, whether the OP's acknowledgements to the East would be as enthusiastic....;)

I assessed the OP's comment as being related to age and as such being not fully aware of the of the whole advent of the Second World War....the war seen from one dimension only.

The Third Reich was defeated by an alliance of Western including the British Commonwealth and Eastern forces plus those who participated from the occupied countries.

By far and large was the forces of the SU who inflicted tremendous manpower losses against Third Reich forces and in turn had to absorb tremendous losses themselves in military manpower and death of its civilians. Without doubt the Eastern Front represented a SU mincemeat machine for German divisions which resulted in a critical drain of German manpower on the battlefield.

It can be claimed the the SU laid the foundation block for the defeat of the Third Reich. WSC must have recognised this for his efforts while the British and Commonwealth stood alone against the Third Reich was at all costs to keep the SU in the war concurrent with his efforts to get FDR to enter the alliance...an alliance which created the United Nations.

From 11 Million people Canada produced the 4th largest navy and 3rd largest airforce by the end of WW2. Not too shabby, eh?
