    People believed in the 'Angels at Mons' as well. The 'every gun a Schmeiser, every pistol a Luger, every machine-gun a Spandau , every tank a Tiger and every gun an '88' is an early manifestation of the present-day obsession with the conspiracy theory of everything. Overall the general public/ordinary soldier were/are not that overburdened with critical thinking skills. Facebook did not create the current pool of credulous cretins they were just the first to help them get organised and transform themselves into the instant Google experts on everything.
