    Tierceville Eros memorial to Royal Engineers that operated in the area Sapper Frank Wedgwood (2006491) helped create.

    This copy of Eros, made in cement, was constructed by 179 Special Field Company, Royal Engineers on 23rd August 1944. Owing to a heavy frost it lost a leg but in 1971 member so the French resistance restored it…This area became an Royal Engineers enclave from early in the invasion, as the engineers sought to clear roads, mend bridges, demolish obstacles and build airstrips.

    Inside the Mairie is part of Royal Engineers commemorative stones and a bronze plaque with the following inscription:-

    During the critical days of June and July 1944, the world listened to news of the Battle of Normandy, broadcast by radio correspondents of many nations from the BBC studio in the tower of this castle.
