    I didn't know we had a 1940 sub forum.

But that Google search takes you offsite, to me it looks like Google with no thematic connection to WW2Talk. Can we not embed a Google search engine in the site with a themed results page?
Then the search box would be visible to visitors and easy to use. Can a visitor even find that link easily? It isn't front and center, Google translate is almost top of the right column.

Should we have an "Ask Owen" link?

I agree with the Tags thing, they could be very useful if more people used 'em - shall have to re-investigate how usable they are for standard members. Thought it was set up OK, but haven't really checked properly for a while.

Vbulletin's search Engine is 'OK', but given the repetition of certain terms it's hard to beat just using Google's site-search, with all the usual whizzy Google search terms available:
    Search WW2Talk via Google here
The place has got so wide-ranging over the years, that when even Owen can't remember where a particular thread lies, Google often comes up trumps.

I've had the embedding code lying about for a while, but haven't got around to it, as I always use a bookmark straight to the site: page for here.
I wouldn't bother with themed results, but maybe ought to pop it in one day. Closest I usually get is considering a plain link on the Portal.

Might have to double check for any conflicts with other bits of VB before cracking on, though - wouldn't want to hassle the boss for some unspecified potential ballsup, and he'd be better than me at integrating it into the correct menu.

I used to bump this thread with extra info as I learnt more about the Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War.
    http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/eastern-front/6653-kiev-defence-operation-factor.html

I knew very little about all that when I joined here.
That thread & a few others helped me understand a litle bit more on what happened in the USSR in 1941.

PS Ron, I've moved thread to 'Suggestions & Feedback' subforum from General as it fits there better.

The other issue is the complexity of that search link. When you get the results the first 3 or 4 pages are the links to individual forums, not to relevant information for the users search. Adding your search terms after the domain name is generally not understood by the average user seeking details.
