    Hi folks,

My grandad was a pre-war Cameron who rejoined the Colours just prior to the start of the War, retaining his rank of L/Cpl. He remained at Home and progressed through the ranks to become CQMS. In late 1943, he was up to no good and, after FGCM, spent some time at Chorley before transfer to 2 RSF where he was shot and captured at Anzio; spending the last year of the War at Moosburg POW Camp.

I've had a look at TNA to try to find detail of the FGCM without success and thought that the folks here might be able to help.

Am I likely to be able to find transcript/details of his FGCM?

    Thanks in advance,

    Roxy

Roxy started his research in 2011, so there are several threads here. At a glance this is the first time the Field General Court Martial aspect has been posted.

I seem to recall from previous threads / posts that the chances of finding information is very slim. See this thread: Court martial records

There are many threads here id'd with an online search with: "Court Martial" site:ww2talk.com

    It's been a while, David!

As you intimate, I think the chance of finding anything is quite slim - the other threads with 'Court Martial' seem to agree. This was a last gasp prior to me putting the detail of my grandad's misdemeanours on the back boiler again.

FWIW, after getting shot, captured and held as a POW for a year, I think he most definitely did his time!

FWIW, if there is any info, I suspect that it’s here:

    Roxy,

I rely on the knowledge of others here and have my doubts even that file will provide the details you seek. That particular TNA file is not mentioned here.

Some very valid cautions in the posts here - in a different thread to the 1st - especially those by Drew5233 who has burrowed in the TNA: Court Martials records

I'm beginning to think that you are right!

However, as is often the case, whilst trying to find details about the Chorley Detention Centre - where he was held - I cam across the website of the Corps of Military Police. It turns out the Cpl James Roxburgh (either brother or nephew!) served with them. Standby for a new thread!
