To all of you who are interested in the Italian campaign, and what our forefathers fought and died for - that is - the defeat of totalitarianism and the right to live in freedom, I thought I should tell you what I and my husband are allowed/not allowed to do as from 1 February until 15 June 2022.

We may not enter a post office or bank
We may not use a public library or enter in any other public building
We may not enter a shop which sells clothes, shoes, household goods, toys, computers and phones, books, newspapers and magazines - just about everything you can think of except food.
We may not visit a museum, or go to a show or a concert
We may not enter in a bar or restaurant - given that there are virtually no public lavoratories in Italy and the only option is a bar, that is a very serious indeed!
We may not stay in a hotel
We may not use any form of pubic transport
We cannot take our car for an MOT (we managed to get ours tested a month early in the nick of time on 31 January) or for repairs of any description
    We cannot visit a hairdresser's or barber's
Those aged 50+ may not enter their place of work

    What is allowed?

We may enter a supermarket or pharmacy
We may visit our doctor, dentist, optician and vet
We may put petrol in our car

I won't go into the regulations for the non-vaccinated at school.

Why are these basic rights being denied us? Because for a number of reasons (including a serious reaction to the vaccine on my huband's part) we decided against the booster and so don't have the infamous Green Pass which, for those who have complied with the law (yes, the law, vaccination for the over 50s is obligatory and refusal to comply incurs a fine of 100 Euro) will not necessitate renewal.

So, as well as our identity card/ permission to stay in Italy, driving licence, health card and national insurance number, all of which we can be asked to show at all times, we will now be required to produce this green card for the immediate and mid-term future

It think the time has come for me to return to the UK.

As told to me by a colleague, the vaccine is compulsory in Israel and if not vaccinated you will probably also lose your job.

It sounds like Vitellino has made a personal choice and thus has to live with the consequences. Such is life.

You're absolutely right. I did make this decision and have never regretted it until now. But it's not irreversible. Nothing is for ever, as they say.

I am still a British citizen, I never took out Italian citizenship although I am a resident, and I can pack my bags tomorrow if I so wish, though getting out of the country would be a hurdle.

My husband is the one whom it would affect most as he would have to comply with the immigration laws should we decide to move to the UK. A visit to Rome or Milan for his fingerprints to be taken, facial recognition, with my passport in his pocket, proof of having lived with me here in Italy, copy of my bank account.....I won't bore you with any more details....

    Janet.

As I understand it, those restrictions apply to anyone who has opted to not be vaccinated and boosted.

As much as it pains me to admit that the Italian Government is imposing controls on your liberty, the solution is to get vaccinated.

    Regards

Frank, I was, with Astrazeneca, on 23 March as of last year- one of the first in Tuscany let alone Italy. It's not being offered this time as a booster, and in any case I am very doubtful of the efficiency of any Sars 2 vaccine that was developed for another variant. I won't go into the science, but this isn't my judgment, it's that of an increasing number of so-called experts. Here the 'boostered' are going down with Omicron anyway.

My husband, inoculated with J&J, suffered a minor stroke when he was driving. His doctor said it was a reaction to the vaccine. He is now having a problem with tendon pains. He's a great swimmer - muscle and tendon problems affect the sporty people most, I gather.

My stepson, after the second dose of Pfizer, ended up in accident and emergency with a heart problem. He too was driving at the time. Due to the vaccine, his doctor and the cardio at A&E confirmed.

I think I'll be managing without access to a public loo until 15 June.

Look at the stats for the UK re deaths from

    Influenza and Pneumonia

    2018 = 29,515
    2019 = 26,398
    2020 = 20,523

Influenza deaths in 2018, 2019 and 2020 - Office for National Statistics

There is currently no data available for deaths or issues caused with the flu vaccine ,pehaps if there were people would not take the flu vaccine with such vigour.

"However, there is no code that exists specifically for influenza vaccinations. Therefore, we do not hold the exact information that you have requested."
Deaths occurring as a result of the influenza vaccine in 2020 - Office for National Statistics

Any vaccine will have a reaction/risk to a small percentage of the population. It so happens that because this pandemic is top of the pile there is more focus on the covid vaccine and very small reaction issues.

A government can only advise their population to take the vaccine for their own benefit and the benefit of others.

Sadly many are lumbered with a government who have been caught in the headlights and fear factors and appear to become non democratic is this area.

It has been a very sad time for millions of people all over the world.

I hope you can resolve your issues.

Thanks for this. Food for thought.

When I opened this morning's paper I was reminded as to why I started this thread.

    I read:

Lager for no-vax. Sicilian doctor insults the 'no-vax' on the social media.

''If I could, and had the authority to do so, I would set up concentration camps specifically for those who refuse to be vaccinated.''
He is the medical director of the Villa Sofia- Cervello United Hospitals of Palermo, and he published his opinion on Linkedin.

Users of this forum are not likely to be aware of the fact, but this is the latest in a line of suggestions aimed at limiting the freedom of over 1,500.000 Italian citizens and residents.

Another doctor, Robert Burioni has expressed the opinion that the 'no-vax' should be shut up in their home ''like mice'' (his exact words.)

A month ago Doctor Agostino Miozzo, member of the govenmental advisory committee on Covid, was of the opinion that they ''should be arrested''. And now this Sicilian has come up with the idea of the camps.

House arrest - full arrest - deportation....Ponza, Lampedusa, the Tremiti Islands, Ventotene, Ustica.....I suspect that most Italians would simply look the other way, as they did last time.

It's this kind of irrelevant and irksome unhelpful opinionating that made me leave the forum the last time.

    Be better than this folks.

You probably missed this from the OP:

Vaccine reactions aren't fun. I ended up in the military sick ward when I get a Tetanus booster at age 19. So no more Tetanus for me, which means I have to be careful when doing work outside and inside. It's not a choice for everyone.

    All the best

Nah, I don't see why I should let someone like you bully me or indeed anyone else off the forum. The 'Ignore' button was invented for people like you, especially since you never managed to contribute anything meaningful.
