Marcus - use tag search facility; it should bring up some threads for you.

The sub-forum matter was already discussed I believe

    then and now | WW2Talk

Cheers Di. Never really used the tag search before.

I'm sure I've seen some British Then & Nows but can't see 'em.

    Cheers anyway. :)

    OK Marcus.
Was it Blitz related? Just wondering if it's for your kid's project.

A reminder perhaps to anyone who comes across T&N pics in a thread to check the tags for the thread and edit in 'Then and Now' if necessary.

Yeah it's to help with the project.

I don't think it was any of those threads. It might have just been a post lost in a thread somewhere. Don't matter really, just got back from the library with a few books.

    Cheers anyway.

I've said it before, but there really isn't anything quite as dull as a now photo without a matching then.. :p

The time has come, the Walrus said,
    To talk of many things:
Of shoes and ships and sealing-wax,
And a specific Then & Now section for WW2 Talk.

Passing by and saw this thread - dusted it off and went 'hmmm', we've got a few more good Then & Now threads since 2010.
Could currently be persuaded if it were clearly marked 'For Then & Now Photographs' and didn't blur into battlefield reports too much.
Don't know how long this urge might last, so what's the current feeling?

How about they are pulled from Battlefield Reports etc. Members do the reports as normal and post just the Then and Nows again in a seperate thread/section where they can all be found with little infomation other than a unit, date and location?

Quite a nice thought, though I suppose it could be complicated and would inevitably slide.

Wonder if we should just have a great big 'Then & Now' thread?
Nothing but the pictures with basic captions, and links to appropriate threads if people have done more.
    Google'd like that.

If it was all one thread I suspect it would take ages to upload all the images. Remember my Nieppe forest massacre thread?

Anyone doing a battle report could be reminded by members to post the 'then and nows' in the section or a member could just cut a paste them into a thread in the then and now section with, like you say, a link to the original thread.

If they are titled accurately with names like 'BEF Then and Nows', 'Normandy Than and Nows' 'Italian Campaign Then and Nows' etc it would help people search for the most appropriate ones of interest. I suspect one thread with 100's of images would make it hard to find specific ones of interest.

Decided to give the Then & Now theme a bump in the hope of seeing more of the same.

There's actually lots of these Then and Now threads on the forum but this is one of the few that doesn't mention any areas of combat.

Posting my own favourite again to start you off

    (and thank you Owen) :)

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bad Kreuznach and returning to Rose Barracks where I was stationed 38 years previously.

Running through Bad Kreuznach is the River Nahe which is spanned by a bridge with houses built on it which I photographed.

Some days later I found a picture of the same bridge houses taken in 1945 so I include these pictures as a "Then and Now."

Yesterday, being Sunday, I was lunching with daughter No.2 when she produced an image she had recently created that that I thought was worthy of this thread.
The original pic was taken in Piazza San Marco in 1945
The second pic was taken on a visit in 2007

    Ooo's a clever girl ?
