Received by email: Can I ask you to post a warning on your site for anyone parking outside the Dunkirk Military cemetery, especially in the lorry and coach park area by the French cemetery. Do not leave anything on display in your vehicle, it seems thieves are targetting non French vehicles in this area looking for sat navs etc. I had nothing on display but they still took my passenger window out. This was around 1300 French time on Sat 16th Oct 2010. If you do fall unlucky, dont expect too much from the Gendarmerie, they appear to be well trained in disinterest. They wont even give you a crime number, they told us to report at the Norfolkline (DFDS) terminal and we would get a number from there...eh no !!! Thanks
Cheers for that. I'll definately bare it in mind when I'm there in future. I nearly always park directly outside the WW2 cemetery when I can (It has a fairly large layby with a couple of disabled places) which is on the main road. I'm surprised about the theft though. The area where the car was broken into always has people coming and going into the French Cemetery (and the toilets) and it contains a considerable amount of the British WW1 CWGC graves too. Cheers Andy
I think that the French police should be looking for someone who regularly visits 1940 period cemeteries in Northern France and perhaps has recently treated himself to a new German car with the proceeds of his crimes.:p I hope the blighters leave my push bike alone !
