We don't hear that much about the wounded from Afghanistan.
I just saw this & thought I ought to share.

Craig Wood and Vicky Swales got engaged three weeks before he was injured

Three weeks after 19-year-old rifleman Craig Wood proposed to his 17-year-old girlfriend Vicky Swales, he was blown up by a wire-detonated roadside bomb on his first patrol back in Afghanistan.

The wounded are often the forgotten statistic of war - the scars both mental and physical take a long time to overcome

On a lighter note, I like the fluffy dice on the wheel-chair.

Good luck to the pair of them.

This thread made me think if I could remember any wounded from Iraq and the one that immediatly sprang to mind was when I went to Re-sup one of my Dets attached to the Black Watch Battle Group in Al-Zubayer before Basrah had fallen.

The night before my arrival one of the BW Platoons was preparing to go out in their Warrior AFV's. Every AFV has to have a man infront of it when manoeuvring in a base to guide them around unitl they leave the relative safety of the base.

One of the BW Sgts was bringing a Warrior upto the main gate and for some reason the Driver hit the anchors causing the Commander to jolt forward onto the chain gun putting a burst of 7.62mm though the Sgt's legs.

It was said if there wasn't a RAP at their location he would have bled to death and sadly he ended up having both legs amputated.

Some years later I saw him on the TV along with some other ex-army amputees from Iraq and Afghanistan working with the MOD helping prepare soldiers on Op-Tag (Pre-Deployment Training) by acting as casualties with serious wounds.

Do wounded numbers get posted or is it 'official secrets' etc . not to broadcast the figures ,
