St Kew's memorial has three Verekers on its WW2 memorial, none of whom show up on CWGC. St Kew is near Padstow and Wadebridge, not far from the North Cornish coast.

I've found the easy ones on CWGC but who were Derek, John and Patrick Vereker?

1609756 Sergeant Eric Sydney Beare 51 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 21st July 1944, aged 21 Son of Sydney and Florance Loveday Beare, of Bodmin

P/MX 66706 Petty Officer Motor Mechanic Alfred George Buscumb Royal Navy H.M.S. Byrsa. Died 3rd November 1943, aged 23 Son of Harry and Olive Buscumb, of Wadebridge; husband of Betty May Buscumb, of Wadebridge

D/JX 212901 Ordinary Seaman Jack Buscumb Royal Navy H.M.S. Drake. Died 13th April 1941, aged 18 Son of Harry and Olive Buscumb, of Chapel Amble

    Wilfred Coleman

2066200 Corporal Monica Nancy Jane Grose Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Died 9th September 1945, aged 25 Daughter of Ambrose W. Grose, and of Endeleine H. Grose, of Chapel Amble, Cornwall

D/KX 85740 Leading Stoker Frank Kent Royal Navy H.M.S. Anking. Died 4th March 1942, aged 24 Son of Frank and Ella Kent; husband of Issy Kent, of Wadebridge

    Horace Lyle

    Derek M. Vereker

    John M. Vereker

    Patrick M. Vereker

In St James' Church, St Kew, are two WW2 rolls of honour which repeat all ten names but they might simply be copying what was already on the memorial.

They seem to have been brothers.

They're all on CWGC but no consistency with the names.

Geoff's Search Engine helps as it's possible to enter 'contains' in the name details...but even then, it is necessary to alter 'UK' to 'India' in order to find Derek with the Gurkha Rifles.

If only all of life were so easy! If I get caught out by one thing more than anything else it's double-barrelled surnames or, even worse, when the hyphen isn't there e.g. Medlicott Vereker. Thank you all, that's had me puzzled for ages. And the two rolls of honour omit the M for Medlicott.

I had the very same problem with Gurkha Rifles officer John Stuart Jones, who was of course really, J. Stuart-Jones.

Three years in the finding.
