Here's an article that I wanted to write to draw attention to the Assam Rifles, which was never a fashionable or famous regiment but one that did a lot of hard work in the jungle: http://www.kaiserscross.com/304501/581001.html Harry
Another well researched article Harry. We had another forum member with a heavy interest in the Assam Rifles, please see the link below showing one of his posts. Sadly, Simon has not been back on the forum for a few years now. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/31840-the-assam-regimental-history/?hl=%2Bassam+%2Brifles#entry385716 Cheers Steve
Appendix 1 mentions the MBE awarded to Cornelius William North, Assistant Superintendent, Burma Frontier Service for his service to refugees at Shingbwiyang. Stephen Brookes, author of Through the jungle of death. A boy's escape from wartime Burma, gives a very different view of the man, who he refers to as Clive North.
