Here is a link to the regimental history of the Perth Regiment of Canada part of the 11 CIB, 5th CAD. they served in the Italian Campaign from the end of Ortona to Ravenna and then the liberation of Northern Holland in March- April 1945. the link appears to be a little fussy but it opens eventually. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=the%20fighting%20perths&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CCUQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.perthregiment.org%2Ffighting_perths%2Fthe_fighting_perths.doc&ei=OH1kULT2Kubs0gHozICYDQ&usg=AFQjCNEZpXEUl_XvWdFvZif4qGyX6m-GDg
gpo' son Stan Skislowski summed it all up in his "Not all of us were brave" - and his "Return to Cassino " which everyone should read and learn Cheers
Tom Stans book's and stories are well written. I have read 'Not All of Us Were Brave' twice. He is certainly the go to guy for anything on the Perth's but never hurts to get a little bit more history. Hard lessons to learn hope we never have to learn them again on the scale that all of you did. My dad's regiment 17th field supported the Perth's. When my dad talked of the war [which was seldom] he talked mostly about the fun times and the boredom of the daily routine and a bit about the violence. He was only in heavy action for Daidem and Chesterfield, when his crews and he were pretty badly shot up by counter battery shoots. That was deadly times for lots of young men, friends. Matt PS still havent found anything on that brawl the regimental history doesnt mention it.
gpo's son Not surprised that the regt. history doesn't mention the brawl at Ortona - as it was bit uneccessary - try Nicholson's OFFICIAL History- Diadem and Chesterfield was enough for anyone Cheers
