As we all know, BoB set the bar very high. Lets just hope it's not too high and Pacific can live up to the hype. We've only had the first two episodes shown here (resisting the urge to view on-line) and a couple of aspects such as a lack of character building have slightly disappointed. But it's early days yet and I'm sure it'll grow to be a legend in its own right.

Will be addressed in the next two.

Don't think it's fair to compare although unavoidable. The whole thing hasn't been shown yet either. I'm learning loads.
I'm off to drop the kids off at the pool!
Oh yes, I understand that it's not fair to compare the two, but it's being done and can't be helped, sad but true. Everyone watching it thinks the same thing, that it's going to be a Marine Corps version of "The Band of Brothers" and that is falling far short of mis-guided heightened expectations. Even the producers make the claim the the series was brought to us by the creators of "The Band of Brothers". I am watching it, and I like it. But it is not as good as "The Band of Brothers" by a long shot. Just my opinion of course. It could get better though. I hope so.

Right now they are assaulting Peleliu, and having a hard time getting off the beach....

blacksnake As old as I feel.

.....And I found out the other day some of it was filmed at a place which is on my travelling route which im going of in a few weeks

I stand to be corrected.... But, I think Queensland Aus was the location for the first two episodes on Guadalcanal. With other episodes being shot in New Zealand.

On nights this week :( so it'll be Saturday before I catch Episode 3...:(

Having watched the first five episodes I find them repetative. Apart from the R & R in Australia. Lets face it one small Pacific Island is much like another. Its soon becomes a bombed out ,shell shattered hell hole just like the ones before. The series gives an impression of the boredom, terror and discomforts faced by the troops. Just how true this is only a Veteran can say.
I am only just begining to feel any warmth towards any of the characters, some have come and gone without me really knowing them.I hate to criticise any attempt to show the hell the Pacific war was. In this offering I can only compare it jam spread to thinly on the bread. Less episodes, more knowledge of the characters, would make it a more concentrated experience.
One wonders what ended up on the editing room floor.

I just want to see the battle scenes. As long as they're good, I don't think I'll be bothered about anything else.

I have a question that maybe some of you Australians can help me out with. On the third episode, when the Marines were pulled out of Guadalcanal and sent back to Australia for refitting, a couple of the Marines were power drinking at a pub, and these two Australians in blue uniforms walk up to them, then the fight breaks out. The question is, the Australian doing the talking, his accent was so strong I could figure out what he was saying. I watched it several times and still couldn't figure it out. Also, what kind of uniform were they wearing? Yes, I know it was blue, but what service....

A-58, we watch a lot of Australian tv & movies and I haven't got a clue what the bloke in the Blue said either. I might be wrong but was that an American trying to do an Aussie accent? Its like an an American in a tv sitcom trying to do an English one, either posh beyond belief or a joke Cockney.

I have liked whaht I have seen so far although I think a huge difference this has compared to BOB was the time the latter set in establishing the unit in the USA and in the UK prior to DDay. Pacific was a few minutes of of introduction and then into the Higgins Boats. I suppose that focussing on three different servicemen and units makes this an unfair comparison.

The Battle Scenes on Guadacanal made me glad to not be there. Any feedback from US Vets yet as to authenticity?

They really shouldn't get people with 20/20 hearing, the best headphones in the world and a copy of the script to do soundmixing. If they used someone who's half-deaf with a washing machine going in the next room, then we'd all be able to hear the dialogue above the sound effects.

Watched the 'free' episodes last night. Enjoyed it, but still planning on waiting for the DVDs.

Having read about Guadalcanal I enjoyed the program but felt it strayed a bit to far from what I have come to think of my impressions gained from the book.
Great battle scenes and most realistic assualt.
The book I read was Guadalcanal by Clifton Cates it is worthwhile if you can get a copy mine came via Abebooks.
