I looked at this about five times to make sure I was reading it right.
If they overlook that fact, who will they say did the bulk of the fighting?

The marines of course. Everyone knows that it was the marines who single handidly won the war in the pacific. Right?

Seriously, most people have no clue that the US Army and the Aussies fought in more battles than the Marines, often in more horrid conditions.

The Marines may claim glory for Guadalcanal, but it was the Aussies who slugged it out in NG. And the army on more islands.

I dont have a problem with Americans making programs about Americans, I dont think they have any requirment to show any other nations. Its damn well up to them.

what does irritate me is when they make it out as fact and not give a balanced view. I love BOB I thinks its amazing but its a bit silly how all other nations are portreyed in a stange sterotypical way . The Germans are incompetant bumbling fools and the British stuck up idiots, that have to be saved.

Saying that really looking forward to Pacific. Lets hope its a bit more balanced.

    Marcus,

It's some guy messing about- someone spills the beans in the comments section

The clips he posted are from the TV series Band of Brothers about Easy Company, 506 PIR, 101st Airborne liberating Nazi Europe and the movie "The Great Raid" about US Army Rangers and Filipino soldiers heroic rescue of American prisoners (survivors of the Bataan Death March) in Japanese POW camps during the liberation of the Philippines in WW2. They're both based on two books of the same titles.

However to my surprise last year there was a thread on here about the Pacific version of Band of Brothers. I don't believe there's any footage of it yet.

Ah well. And here I was getting all excited about it. Cheers Drew. I must start reading the comments more often.

So the clips are from the great raid? Anyone seen it? Looks good. Might have a shufti later to see if I can watch it online somewhere.

I've never heard of it until I saw the clip a few months back.

Here's the trailer etc. The Great Raid

Its based on a true story (Quite famous apparently in America). There was a doc on the military channel a week or so about it with interviews with about 5 of the original Rangers who carried out the raid. It was called Operation something or other I think

    Cheers

    Hi All,
I seem to remember reading somewhere recently that Messrs. Spielberg and Hanks were doing another mini-series along the same lines as "Band of Brothers". This one apparently is about the war in the Pacific. Does anybody have any more info or was I just imagining it?

Hope you don't mind, I merged this with a thread that already exists.

Just merged two more similar threads into one huge one.
