Good for you. Hackers have been with us from day one.
    You're alright, Jack.

The point here, however; is that within that hacked material was "government ID images, photo ID such as a driving license or a passport ... where a user had appealed a decision concerning age verification for the use of the Discord service." and that the hack basis was: “An unauthorized party targeted our third-party customer support services to access user data”.

So on one of the world's largest 'Social Media' systems (That, ironically, many older peeps will barely be aware of), the actual system remained secure, but hackers were able to access the third party (picture manbun app developers) system that has been bolted on to 'protect' younger/borderline users, and is therefore stuffed with high quality ID that hackers and other twats could only previously dream of.

We have all given data to the Internet.
There's a compromise and bargain made there by the aware.
Until this stuff, giving very sensitive tangible ID to the web was really rather rare.
It's inherently dangerous, and will get worse as this lunacy spreads.

    PrOTecT tHe KidZ!

I prefer David's sling to a "catapult". Fairly proficient with one when I was a lad. Could hit a crow on a power line 3 times out of 5. They learned to leave our vegetable garden alone. (Took ~ six months to get that good. Couldn't replicate it today, unless somebody replaced my shoulders.)

Depends very much on what part of the country you’re from, of course. There are accents here to which I can happily cock a deaf ‘un, as we say, but others I love. Doubtless the same your side of the pond.

I will say to all Hollywood producers, though, that we don’t all sound like either Lord Snooty or chimney sweeps à la Dick Van Dyke. :D

Being forced, yes forced, by this ludicrous legislation, for those largely innocents who just wish to continue using services they have in the past, is just awful, and leads to more awfullness for them, as Adam has so eloquently highlighted, that just wasn't there pre OSA.

The legislators, the parliament space takers. They just don't get it.

Perhaps they need it illustrated to them in terms they might, just might, understand.

E.g. "Pre-OSA; babysat by Mary Poppins".

    "Post-OSA; babysat by Uncle Ernie".

Kind regards, actually they still wouldn't get it, always,

    Jim.

Ah, but that's how you chaps sound to the hoi polloi over here. They've been trained to hear what the producers want them to hear, because it's easier than GETTING IT RIGHT!

Aaaahhhhhhhh; to be guinea pigs again.

Will this (initiative?!?!!) come under/be covered by the OSA/Ofcom Adam?

Military veterans able to download digital ID card

Entirely a personal opinion of course, but my confidence in the "is our data safe?" aspect of this has been somewhat set back by the soon to be announced purported leads of the project.

Kind regards, c'est toujours le premiere d'Avril,

Why would any veteran want to download a digital version of our ID card when the current plastic version isn't recognised by anyone, not even the Government that issues it. After many promises by MP's we still can't use it for identification when voting. A lot of shops when asked about using the card for discounts give a rather bored reply of 'We don't do that' despite displaying a Military Covenant sign in their window.

Don’t know if it was mentioned yet, but former P.M. Tony Blair is hip deep in this digital I.D. nightmare for at least twenty years. In 2005, the Labour Party vowed to implement I.D. cards containing biometric data like fingerprints and backed by a national register. The Identity Cards Act 2006 was passed into law, against strong opposition from civil liberties groups but it took about five years to get it repealed.

Proving that terrible ideas never die, Keir Starmer and his handlers have repackaged this as the BritCard, but it’s all for your own good, he says.

If tracing the origins of invasive personal data collection, digital I.D. and Ofcom, I would say that it started with founding of the Fabian Society. The intellectuals, aristocrats and technocrats who embrace this school of thought know that the best way to gain support for unpopular policy is to disguise the plan as something else.

The Fabians devised a coat of arms that featured a wolf in sheep’s clothing and that can be seen in the stained-glass, Fabian Window—attributed to George Bernard Shaw in 1910—with the clearest signal that they endorsed the use of deception to achieve objectives. Bertrand Russell and many of his associates aimed to usher in scientific socialism to replace Christianity.

The Fabian Window went missing for many years but after it was recovered for display, wouldn’t you know it they got Tony Blair to make the presentation at the London School of Economics.

  15. Google IA:
"The statement is a mischaracterization of Russell's views; he did not advocate for scientific socialism to replace Christianity, but rather saw all religions and dogmatic ideologies, including forms of socialism, as based on sentiment rather than reason. He argued against religious dogma and, in works like Why I Am Not a Christian, explicitly criticized all major religions as being untrue and harmful. However, his critique also extended to certain forms of socialism that he viewed as dogmatic, or "religious," in their approach."
    From wiki:
"Bertrand Russell briefly became a member, but resigned after he expressed his belief that the Society's principle of entente (in this case, between countries allying themselves against Germany) could lead to war."
which is somehow reminiscent of your own purported position regarding Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

So, please do not intervene in a discussion by presenting spurious opinions as facts, neither of which which have anything to do with the subject, and are in violation of the Masonic Rule.

I'm going to draw a veil over this thread again.
Maybe bring back to life in a bit.
    maybe not.

Quite seriously, the only person actually exposed here after O & D left as an 'official' & UK resident is myself*, and I shall absolutely be referring any official queries to our Canuckistani/Texan owner... If they come.

Am content to contemplate the void, as I honestly have little to lose, but seriously; do not underestimate the 50/50 possibility of all the veteran testimony/expert knowledge stored here being swept away by this abject dimwitted... hmmm... cuntery.
If nothing else, all this has rammed home that I do probably actually give a tinker's cuss about what we all built here, and may not be as laissez faire as my innate instincts.
For Ron, Tom, Joe, Gerry etc. The Second War chaps that chatted so freely without any concern about this box-ticking cack that succeeded their sad demises.

I'm going to (hopefully) make a pop-up now for everyone visiting to confirm they're over 18.
    Don't be alarmed.
    Carry on.
    Etc.
