Thread excluded from Masonic rule, as existential stuff.

    Comes into force soon.

Quite seriously: Our future hangs in the balance.
We shall see if I or any other volunteer can face the massive list of 'risk assessment' OFCOM thinks is reasonable.

Tits to the thousands of pages of veteran testimony, good information & well-intentioned sharing of info.

    Not joking.
    Much reading to be done.

    This thread may suddenly self-destruct.

    "It's a free country."
    Yeah.
    No.
    Maybe.

I would hope that we as a collective could act as a team to ensure the relevant legal nuances are read and planned to ensure full compliance.

Pull yourself together man ( old expression quite possibly not allowed under the new rules and I take full responsibility for my comments and offer to share a cell with Owen should the need arise)

What if some lunatic Yank gets loose on the forum. You could blame all kinds of things on him.

Especially if you sent him something from Skye...

One of the points from Russ Garrett's document:

"Contrary to some rumours, as a small site the OSA does not require you to proactively monitor or scan people’s posts – you only have to respond to reports when they are made."

I don't know if many posts are reported, but I'm sure those that are reported, are acted on accordingly.

Fingers crossed we can still operate as normal.

"The Act states that two factors are particularly relevant in considering the information that is reasonably available to a service provider:

    a) “the size and capacity of the provider”; and

    b) “whether a judgement is made by human moderators, by means of automated systems or processes or by means of automated systems or processes together with human moderators.”

If the site can confirm that Otto, VP, Owen, dbf, & co., ( plus any of the self-appointed milk-monitor types we get on here from time to time ) are "human" ?

I think we can vouch for dbf and Otto being human but the other 2 not so sure

I don't see anything in the lists of of illegal content and activity on platforms that is listed on pages 9 and 10 that is even a little bit like anything I've ever seen on ww2talk in the fifteen years I've been reading it.

I'm sure this has been a hot topic in the UK for a while and I'm confident that Adam and Owen aren't being alarmists. Can someone explain why we should be concerned?

It is an aspect of English law that it can have unintended application and consequences, especially if zealots wish to wage "lawfare". OFCOM no doubt will prefer the non-enforcement route to criminal prosecution. If only as prosecution can be expensive.

Does the fact that the basic ethos of this forum is about war (and maybe a bit about peace) mean there's a 'Whitehall Warrior' out there that thinks this could be dodgy?
    Keep up the good fight.
