Clive summed it up for me, post 9. You've got more chance being kidnapped by alien's than winning the lottery. Canuck, you missed one out ? The chances of winning millionaire twice is only 283bn to 1 best.......Graham.
I believe the pools are still going,Littlewoods. So we have convinced ourselves the lottery is a very bad investment. What about the winner's ? A quick google tells me, since the lottery started 1994 it has created over 4800 millionaires and paid out over 53 billion in prizes. For some it's a life of luxury, for others it's totally destroyed them. There was a winning ticket of over 63 million which was never claimed. At the end of the day,it seems win or lose, we just love to have a flutter. Graham.
I wish they would limit the top prize to £1m and have more winners. I also think that it is wrong that you can buy a lucky dip and then find that you are sharing it with thousands of others. It must be possible to eliminate the number combination once it is issued. Have to confess that discussing what we would do should we ever win, gave as much pleasure as prioritising our bucket list - only wish we had been able to do more before he died. Guess we also shouldn't forget that many worthy causes would have waited for ever for funding from other sources.
Spot The Ball ? LOL. My father used to have a go at that every week, never won. Reminds me of those Green Sheild Stamps ? when you collected 10 books you could claim an ashtray or a pair of leather gloves. best..........Graham.
See it's stats like those that make my head spin. That needs some sort of clarification. I guess you could say in the UK in 1988 1 in 45,000 died as a result of a plane crashing on their home - defining 'crash' in very broad terms. But for the next 30 years it's about 0 in 500,000 per year in the UK. So that equates to about 1 in 1,400,000 have died as a result of a plane 'crashing' (i.e. wreckage falling) on their home in the UK over the last 30 years. But as they say you're ten times more likely to die on your way to the newsagent to buy your ticket than you are of winning it. Moral of the story is buy your ticket online. Anyway still going to give the lottery a miss.
Hi Lee, Very impressive, I just find it all very amusing. There's always 1 chance of anything happening anywhere.I guess Insurance companys use this thought when they work out our ever increasing premiums. cheer's.......Graham.
